"Remember to look up at the star and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up."

“First off, I want to give a huge congratulations to all the winners! Since the beginning, Dell EMC has been very excited by this strategic partnership with MindShare Learning and the opportunity to reach teachers and students through the Classroom of the Future Challenge. There is tremendous potential for more accessible and up-to-date digital resources in classrooms, and through programs like this, we’re committed to working with innovative partners like MindShare Learning to bring these technologies to every classroom and school.”
- Jon Dermott, Vice President of Sales for Dell EMC Canada on the announcement of the 10th Annual Classroom of the Future Contest Winners
"We were impressed by the powerful teaching and learning that we witnessed in the videos that were submitted to this year's MindShare Classroom of the Future Contest. If these videos were a testament to what is happening in classrooms around this country we can be confident that Canadian students will continue to be at the forefront of learning achievement on the world stage."

A Focus on Screen Time

The C21 CEO Academy cares deeply about all facets of student learning. Screen time has become a major priority challenge that led to a national conference call to share insights on how screen time is being managed across member districts.  Below is a compilation of articles and research to assist educators and parents to strike a balance for their students and children.

SO WHY CAN'T YOU PUT IT DOWN ?!!!

Increasingly, research by psychiatrists, neuroscientists, marketers and public health experts shows - smartphones are causing damage to our minds and relationships, measurable in seconds shaved off the average attention span, reduced brain power, declines in work-life balance and hours less family time.

They have impaired our ability to remember, increased our vulnerability for anxiety, make it more difficulty to daydream and think creatively.

They make parents ignore their children.  And they are addictive, if not in the clinical sense, for all intents and purposes.

What a very cool and insightful site visit I had recently with John Heinrich, Principal at St. Elizabeth High School in York Region on the periphery of the Greater Toronto Area. Fred Galang, Digital Design teacher coincidentally is a past national winner of the Classroom of the Future Challenge.  A visit to John Heinrich’s office makes a statement. Modern, sleek white furniture convey’s innovation. I was given a tour of the library in transition to a learning commons. Partnership opportunities are available for interested
EdTech companies!

I was intrigued to learn about Project Flow that will provide grade 9 and 10 students the opportunity to experience integrative learning. Teachers are currently exploring design thinking in preparation of the implementation for back to school in September.

Principal John Heinrich, St. Elizabeth High School walks the talk when it comes to innovation. While it doesn’t happen overnight, his passion and vision to implement Project Flow will provide students transformative learning experiences.

What an awesome TDSB Unleashing Learning conference I attended along with some 1,600 delegates yesterday hosted by my alma mater district. Despite being on deadline for this Report, I managed to carve out enough time experience connecting with amazing teacher leaders at the poster sessions; drop by the EdTech partner booths and connect with the senior leadership team at Canada’s largest school district. Thanks to Peter Singh, CTO, for the kind invitation.
