1. Government of Canada Invests in Let’s Talk Science, Boosting National STEM Education Opportunities for Children and Youth, May 26, 2024
Let’s Talk Science, a national, charitable education and outreach organization – is pleased to announce the Government of Canada’s commitment to provide $28.5 million in funding over five years. The investment, provided through the Strategic Science Fund, will begin in 2024 and will have a significant impact towards our ability to deliver programming that supports skills and competency development in children and youth across Canada through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
2. ‘Help people feel empowered’: Oshawa students dream of new, accessible solutions, May 21, 2024

Students at the school were tasked with finding solutions to some practical accessibility solutions as part of a new Durham District Schools Board (DDSB) project — 3D Printing Project: Dream, Design, Deliver — which is aimed at teaching students to use 3D printing technology to address common accessibility issues.
3. OCSB Students Excel in Toshiba ExploraVision Awards, May 22, 2024

Anjali, Ellen, and Aubry, three exceptional students from St. Andrew Elementary School’s Program for Gifted Learners, secured second place in the renowned Toshiba ExploraVision Awards, a prestigious STEM competition in North America. Their achievement truly reflects their and their educators’ commitment to Deep Learning.
4. Five more Canadian school boards sue social media giants, alleging harm to students’ mental health, May 29, 2024
Five more Ontario school boards and two private schools are suing the companies behind social-media platforms Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat and TikTok, accusing them of designing unsafe and addictive products that harm the mental health of students and disrupt learning.
5. Manitoba students find new ways to learn new skills, develop passions with eSports, May 23, 2024

When you think of learning new life skill, video games typically aren’t top of mind as a way to facilitate learning. However across Canada, more and more schools are creating their own eSports teams as a way to get students more engaged, and work on skills such as teamwork, communication and discipline.

6. Alumnus revolutionizes battery technology using saltwater, May 21, 2024

Cleland leveraged his skills in electrochemistry and his passion for environmental sustainability to co-found Aqua-Cell Energy Inc., a start-up focused on designing affordable, safe energy storage for commercial and industrial solar power. Cleland's company aims to address the issue of energy storage in the renewable energy industry using low-cost and sustainable materials.
7. Building Canada's future tech workforce, May 16, 2024

Queen’s is launching new training programs in the areas of cleantech, artificial intelligence, and robotics to prepare students for careers in high demand fields.
8. N.S. government spends $350,000 in funding on first of its kind simulator for NSCC, May 20, 2024

The Nova Scotia government is funding a new fisheries simulator for the NSCC Shelburne Campus which will allow students to practise operating fishing vessels while on land.

The simulator features navigation systems for both fishing and aquaculture, making it the first of its kind in Canada.
9. ProfBot, a new AI-powered chatbot, could be student’s next study-buddy, May 04, 2024

Students may soon have a new study buddy to help them prepare for exams, an AI tool named ProfBot.

ProfBot, a new AI-powered chatbot, was developed and tested by Dr. Sean Wise, a professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Northlands College proudly launched the Northlands College Metaverse Campus becoming one of the colleges in Canada to establish a full campus presence in the Metaverse. This achievement heralds a new era of transformational learning tools as we continue to push the boundaries of education and integration of technology across Northern Saskatchewan.
