This Week in Canadian EdTech with Award Winning Author, Eric Walters, on his Career & Inspiration behind #IReadCanadianDayTomorrow

Dear Thought Leader,

I trust you had a memorable family day yesterday celebrated in most Canadian provinces, along with Islander day in PEI, and Louis Riel day in MB (and President's Day in the US, to give a shoutout to our American readership!). It was a much-needed break and opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and our backyard skating rink!

Today, I was honoured to connect with award-winning author and educator, Eric Walters on our MindShareTV podcast in preparation for tomorrow's #IReadCanadianDay. Coincidentally, Eric is a fellow York U alumnus and former Mississaugan, who shared his inspirational story on how he became an author, thanks in large part to his reluctant student readers (Vista Heights Public School). His students not only became part of his first book, they inspired the next one too! Be sure to have a listen as Eric shares his secrets to his success and advice for Canadian authors on the need to pivot to succeed in the digital age.

A couple of takeaways: the notion of belonging and community are two themes that resonated with me from my convo with Eric. It reinforces the importance of essential grassroots supports and the notion that, "it takes a digital village to raise a child," especially during the pandemic. To that end, Eric's other passion is his charity, Creation of Hope in Kenya to support orphaned children.
