This Week in Canadian EdTech with Ramy Ghattas, Logics Academy on the launch of Canadian Minecraft Challenge...Future Frontiers with last year's teacher Winner, Matthew McTavish
Dear Thought Leader,

I trust my teacher friends and colleagues in Ontario had an opportunity to relax and recharge during the delayed spring break. As you to return to class in yet another round of remote learning, while not ideal, it's deemed necessary as a result of Ontario's inability to get COVID under control.

Today also marks the release of the much anticpated Federal budget. I'm predicting some good news with continued investment in STEM through the CanCode funding. The program will likely be tweaked for the next phase to promote the continued focus on nurturing 21st century skills. Stay tuned!

Watch for the launch of our Canadian Schools of the Future [Student Engagement] Challenge 2021 next month! We're Challenging teachers to share how they helped their students thrive in challenging times, in an effort to capture and share effective teaching practices during the pandemic. This year we'll be accepting digital artifacts in the form of blogs, videos and podcasts. This year's prize packages will be Bigger and Better too! To date we've awarded over $1 million in prizes!

Further hope for Ontario, I was encouraged to learn about Fed funding news (likely in today's budget for other provinces) in partnership with and Ontario government making a significant investment to of $656 million for infrastructure upgrades to protect student and teachers from COVID in Ontario schools. All hot spots in Ontario, Quebec and beyond should be tackled head on. The obvious next step is to mandate vaccinating all teachers and education workers across Canada.

I'm all for evidence-based decision making to get our country through the tough weeks ahead before we return back to some sense of normalcy in our daily lives. While I received my first vaccine this past week, I would have happily given mine to a teacher if I could have.

On the post-secondary front, a very timely article given the goings on at Laurentian University. To ‘future proof’ universities, leaders have to engage faculty to make tough decisions.

I hope you enjoy this week's Top 10 curated news stories that really provide a national lens and pulse for some of the incredible innovation happening across our vast Canadian landscape.

Be sure to join this Wednesday the C21 Canada 10th Anniversary Webinar Series: C21 CEO Academy Leadership Series, "Diversity-led Inclusion through an Equity Lens.” Details in this week's report.

This Week in Canadian EdTech MindshareTV Podcast features Unboxing EdTech with Ergotron on active learning and adapting to hybridlearning at home and school.

We are pleased to be media partners in the Logics Canadian Minecraft Challenge...Future Frontiers recently launched as we are proud media partners. Checkout our lead podcast with Ramy Ghattas and educator, Matthew McTavish, one of last year's winners for inspiration.

There will be brighter days ahead. The key is to stay positive, stay active (hopefully we'll be back golfing soon in Ontario!) and stay safe.

Until next time, keep the learning curve steep!
