Four Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) physical education teachers have been acknowledged with a Physical and Health Educators (PHE) of Manitoba Innovator Award for their professional contribution to the promotion of physical and health education. 
 
These four teachers are EdTech Mentors for other physical education teachers throughout the division.  The EdTech Mentorship Program provides professional learning opportunities to help teachers bring technology and innovation into their classrooms. The EdTech Mentors guide teachers in integrating the technology into lesson design and everyday teaching. 
2. Making money matter to Alberta students

Alberta's government is getting students the training they need to better understand saving, budgeting, spending and investing.

 

To make sure junior and senior high students have the financial knowledge for today's world, Alberta's government is releasing a call for grant proposals totaling $1 million. The successful organization, or group of organizations, will work with schools to provide financial literacy programming to students starting in fall 2021.

3. Carnegie Learning acquires Canadian educational Math software platform Zorbit's Math

Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Learning acquired Canada-based software platform Zorbit’s Math, according to a news release.  
 
Zorbit’s Math, founded in 2014, offers a software-as-a-service platform that uses game-based learning techniques to help K-12 students with math. As students use it, the software system collects and analyzes data and provides teachers with individualized recommendations for students.

5. Surrey, White Rock students win awards at virtual science fair

Five Surrey students from the BC/Yukon Virtual Science Fair were named 2021 Canada-Wide Science Fair finalists.
 
That’s in addition to the 21 Surrey and White Rock students taking home 31 awards, which included 14 provincial awards, 16 divisional awards and one special award.

6. Colleges and Institutes to Gather for first Online National Conference

Leaders and educators from across the country and around the world will be gathering online from April 26 to 28 for Colleges and Institutes Canada's (CICan) annual Connection Conference. Like so many things this year, this will be an entirely virtual event. It will be an opportunity to exchange on this year's theme, Changing Narratives, which reflects how the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced post-secondary institutions to dramatically change the way they operate.
 
7. Investments to improve access to technology for students; experiential learning opportunities

FREDERICTON (GNB) – This year’s $1.4-billion budget for the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development represents a 4.4 per cent increase from the previous year. The department’s 2021-22 budget was tabled today at the legislative assembly.
 
Included are investments to increase access to technology and virtual learning opportunities, to support experiential learning in communities, and to help ensure schools stay safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

9. Calgary software company Absorb gets $500M US investment from private equity firm

A Calgary company that makes cloud-based learning and performance management software has secured a half-billion investment from a private equity firm.
 
Absorb Software CEO Mike Owens told the Calgary Eyeopener on Wednesday that New York-based Welsh, Carson, Anderson and Stowe has invested $500 million US in the company, which is headquartered in Calgary's Telus Sky building.
10. Tech-Access Canada Welcomes Strong Support for Technology Access Centres and College Applied Research in Budget 2021
