This Week in Canadian EdTech MindShareTV with Keith Krueger, CEO, Cosn & Paula Maylahn, Director of Research, on their recently released report, The State of EdTech Leadership Survey 2021

As we prepare to put a wrap on the 2020-2021 academic year, let's be sure to celebrate our successes and show gratitude to those who helped support learning in new and innovative ways--Congratulations to the graduates, teachers, parents, siblings and grandparents, who helped get you across the finish line!

This past year will be a defining moment in modern history. It was by no means perfect and I'm not going to debate the merits of EdTech because if it didn't exist there would have been very little sustained learning. What's exciting is what lies ahead. The bubonic plague was followed by the Renaissance era-- mass innovation, creativity and embracing of the arts. Dr. Michael Fullan talks about the return of roaring 20's!

Let's not kid ourselves as we have a lot of work ahead of us in this country. The recent discovery of the 215 children's graves at the residential school in Kamloops, followed by the recent London, Ontario murders of a Muslim family reminds us that we as Canadians we need to do better and right the wrongs.

You, we as parents, teachers, employers have an opportunity to truly redefine our work & learning communities to allow for true inclusivity and tolerance, where everyone feels at home and has a voice. Canada is one of the most envied and desirable countries in the world to live. The 7C's of C21 Canada have never been more foundational to our country, students and leaders of tomorrow. And specifically this one....

CULTURE AND ETHICAL CITIZENSHIP

" Canadians place value on the history and culture which shapes our country and its people. Indigenous people wish to see their culture reflected in Canadian education policy, programs and services. Canadians must be global citizens with a clear identify of their own along with sensitivity and respect for the diversity which sustains the country."

                                                                                  -- C21 Canada, 7Cs Shifting Minds 4.0

Our thoughts and prayers are with all residential schools' victims and families across Canada and the Afazaal family in London.

NEW! Three Practical Tips for New and Returning Post-Secondary Instructors

Dr. Chris Kim, MindShare Learning Research Associate, Software Engineer, software studio, Fresco Industries

While Toronto’s post-secondary students look forward to some form of near-normal summer in a city that seems to have its sights on reopening, many instructors and administrators are already gearing up to prepare for the uncertain Fall semester ahead.
As many universities and colleges across the province announce their strategies to gradually reopen their physical campuses come September, many instructors are left to wonder whether their expectations should remain consistent with the previous academic year, and what they can do to lead another semester with confidence. Having watched the remote learning sector evolve and grow over the better part of the decade, I now find myself offering some tips and words of advice (and perhaps comfort) to new and returning instructors, derived from my own experience on both sides of the podium. Below, I would like to share three keywords that served me well in the context of online learning.
